Getting pregnant is not always as easy or natural as you may expect. About one in every six couples will not succeed in conceiving within 1 year of regular unprotected intercourse—this phenomenon is called infertility. Infertility affects men and women almost equally. It is due to the man in about 40 percent of cases, and the woman in 35-40 percent. The remaining cases are caused by problems in both partners. Overall, about 20 percent of infertility problems remain unexplained even after complete medical evaluations. Today there is a wide range of treatments and techniques available to improve fertility and the chances of conception. Some of them are described on this website. The choice of treatment will depend on the causes of the infertility, and on personal circumstances and preferences.
