Orgaran® (danaparoid sodium)

Orgaran® (danaparoid sodium) is an injectable nonheparin antithrombotic drug indicated for the treatment of thromboembolic complications (TEC) due to heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) [1].
HIT is a potentially fatal autoimmune reaction to heparin (either unfractionated or low molecular weight), one of the most commonly used drugs in hospitals. It can affect any patient exposed to heparin and is characterized by an unexplained and profound (typically >30%) platelet count fall – thrombocytopenia. HIT is strongly associated with venous and arterial thrombosis and without prompt and effective treatment, up to 50% of patients will experience a blood clot (thrombosis) [2].

Orgaran is a natural anticoagulant, described as a nonheparin (or Heparan) because it is devoid of heparin or heparin fragments. It works by reducing thrombin generation; thrombin is a critical factor in the development of blood clots.
Orgaran is administered as an injection given subcutaneously or intravenously.
Healthcare professionals can order directly from our specialist suppliers Durbin Plc.
