Sandrena is a smooth alcohol-based gel. The active ingredient in Sandrena gel is estradiol.

Sandrena is one of a group of medicines called hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It's used for problems that may affect some women when their body produces less of the female hormone oestrogen (for example at their change of life or menopause). At the time of the menopause (or after an operation to remove the ovaries) a woman's body produces less of the female hormone, oestrogen. There can also be other reasons for having too little oestrogen, for example if the ovaries are not working properly. Whatever the reason, too little oestrogen may cause a range of problems such as hot flushes and night sweats. The shortage of oestrogens may cause the vaginal wall to become thin and dry and as a result, sexual intercourse may become painful. Too little oestrogen may also be associated with problems such as urinary incontinence and cystitis. These complaints can often be helped by using medicines containing oestrogen.
